Located on a tranquil tree-covered site at the mouth of Hog Pen Creek at Lake Austin, the design for this house celebrates outdoor living, maximizes views, facilitates the owner’s Ironman training, and provides home office spaces. The house’s L-shaped footprint was prescribed by the many restrictions and easements on the site, which reduced the five-acre property to a one-quarter acre buildable area. A one-story guest wing defines the south leg of the “L” and provides views to the majestic oak in the main courtyard. The two-story east wing of the “L” accommodates kitchen, living, and dining spaces on the first floor. The second floor master suite is tucked into the trees at the north end. The owners’ offices were designed as an integral part of their daily experience. His is a fully glazed “cockpit” perched in the rafters above the entry porch. Hers projects from the second floor master suite above the pool. A boardwalk spine connects all elements.
